Testimonial for The Proverbs' Guide to Love
Pastor Scott Reese, January 2018
Some years back, I was browsing through a national magazine and came across an article entitled, "How to find, love, marriage, and the man of your dreams".
I scanned the article and then the brief bio about the author - along the listings of her educational degrees and counseling experience it states that she has been married 6 times! The magazine thought - wow, she has been able to find love and marriage 6 times, she must be an expert. I said to myself, “Oh no, this the last person that should be giving advice on dating and marriage!”
How blind this world is. Unfortunately, how often even Christians are influenced by these worldly philosophies.
One may wonder what a young single man could have to offer on this subject of love, dating, and marriage? I actually believe this is the strength of the book.
Society has changed so much in the last decade, that I really believe most older Christians don't understand the temptations and pressures this younger generation faces in the areas of sexuality, dating, and marriage. A young person is inundated with sexual images and ungodly philosophy from all directions. The advent of the Internet and social media has changed the landscape of sexuality and temptation.
In years gone by to see an explicit image or to experience an ungodly hook up would require a process and determined thinking. Now, it is literally just a few clicks away. Society has an emphasis on immediate gratification without consideration of long-term consequences.
Armand understands these pressures and as a young man committed to God, has wrestled with these issues and has sought godly counsel.
The book is rooted in biblical principles. Because they are true and authored by God, the messenger's personal experience is not what is important.
That being said, Armand is wise to incorporate words of wisdom from many happily married couples.
No missionary dating! Understanding the difference between lust and love. Beware of the dangers of porn. Having patient commitment in an impatient and uncommitted world Being content in singlehood. God's perfect example of Love. Proverbs' wisdom on dating and marriage. These and other subjects are urgently needed by those who are seeking true love and marriage.
I have been blessed to know Armand for many years. I remember when I first him how impressed I was with his faith and commitment to Christ. As time, passed my respect and love for this young man has grown - Armand is a gifted young man that is not only very knowledgeable about Biblical principles but more importantly, he is one who is living them as a shining light in this dark world.
It is my prayer that this book will find widespread use and that it will be used to inspire and instruct.
